Antioxidant and Antibacterial Activity of Endophytic Fungi Isolated from the Stem Bark of Sonneratia caseolaris
Keywords:
Antioxidant, Antibacterial, Endophytic fungi, Secondary metabolite, Sonneratia caseolarisAbstract
Sonneratia caseolaris is a species of mangrove which is as a source of bioactive compounds with antioxidant and antibacterial activities. These compounds can be found in various types of plants. Endophytic fungi have secondary metabolite compounds that are the same as their hosts so that they can be used as new drug compounds. This study aims to determine the content of antioxidants, antibacterials, and groups of secondary metabolite compounds in endophytic fungi of Sonneratia caseolaris. The sample used was the stem bark. This study used the DPPH method for antioxidant activity with concentration variations of 1000 ppm, 500 ppm, 250 ppm, 125 ppm, 62.5 ppm, 31.25 ppm, and 15.625 ppm, with ascorbic acid as a positive control. While antibacterial activity use the disc diffusion method. The research result obtained 5 isolates (KBR1-KBR5 code) of endophytic fungi with four different species, namely Thichoderma sp, Aspergillus sp, Sclerotium sp, Papulaspora sp. The strongest antioxidant and antibacterial activity were KBR2 (Aspergillus sp.). The group of compounds found in this endophytic fungal extract is phenolic compounds.
